Article 6: What to do if we encountered a Fetch error

Problem:

We were unable to fetch the page from your Web server, either because we did not receive an answer to our request (Timeout) or the server responded with an error.

Background:

The DNS and Ping tests check that we can find an IP address for your Web server and that your server is reachable. The Fetch test sends an html request for the page from your Web server.

A “Timeout” error may indicate a load problem on your server, but more likely is the result of communication problems from our data center to your Web server through the Internet. Any other Fetch error means that we received a valid answer from the server, and that response was that an error was encountered.

Possible Reasons:

1. You have moved, renames or changed the properties of a file intentionally.

2. The server’s configuration for that page was changed accidentally.

Recommended Action:

Step 1. If the change to the file was intentional, or if you have rearranged your site and want us to now start monitoring a different page just let us know.
Step 2. If we have detected an unintentional problem on the server, you should restore the missing page or change the properties of the page to fix the problem. We will continue to monitor the page and will automatically send a message as soon as we are able to fetch the page without error.

As with all errors, if we can be of help resolving your problem please let us know by email to
