Problem:
We were unable
to fetch the page from your Web server because of a “Timeout”
error. Either the server is responding very slowly, or more
likely, there is a communication problem in reaching your site.
Background:
The DNS and
Ping tests check that we can find an IP address for your Web
server and that your server is reachable. The Fetch test sends an
html request for the page from your Web server.
A “Timeout”
error indicates that either your server’s response was lost or
took a long time. It is possible that this indicates a problem
with your Server, but it is more often a communication problem
through the Internet.
Possible
Reasons:
1.
If
our Ping test is disabled for your site because a firewall is
filtering out Ping messages, Timeout errors on fetching will
be more common. If there is a communication outage between our
data center and your server, the Ping test would normally
detect and help diagnose it. If we do not perform the Ping
test, we would move on to the Fetch test and would raise a
“Timeout” error during a communication outage.
2. If
your outage report indicates that your site correctly passed
the Ping test before we encountered the Fetch Timeout, there
may be a problem at your Web server. Try visiting the page
yourself to see if the page is served correctly and promptly.
If it seems ok, it may still be an intermittent communication
problem. Ping
packets are very small, and even if some Pings are making it
through a communication problem may be disrupting the travel
of larger packets.
